As a self-taught coder since high school, I started my professional career in software development, first as the CTO in a startup and then as a Unity developer in an EIG (Economic Interest Grouping) focused on virtual reality.
A little more than 2 years ago, I was hired to join Voodoo as Marketing Unity Developer with the mission to create videos of our games to advertise them and attract new players.
This job caught my attention because I wanted to express myself and use my skills in other topics and fields than pure tech development. The job of Marketing Unity Developer is the best fit for me, thanks to which I can use and combine all the skills and knowledge I acquired through my previous professional experience.
The job didn’t take long to convince me, as it allowed me to work on lots of different projects every day and break the routine I was starting to experience in my previous jobs.
Unlike pure Game Developers, a Marketing Unity Developer doesn’t need to create perfect, bug-free concepts and videos. My goal is to create videos that will generate interest in our game ads, making them more appealing.
This approach gives me real creative freedom, to ideate and propose ideas, without having any restrictive specifications. This is a significant advantage when it comes to artistic creativity, especially in 3D. What I also like a lot about this job is getting feedback on your creations on a daily basis. Everything revolves around the data, if the video is effective, then we scale it and iterate on it. If it’s not, we kill the concept, but you have to admit that it’s much less frustrating to kill a concept after just 24 hours than after three months of work!

At Voodoo, the Marketing (Growth) department is divided into two main teams:
the Live team, in charge of our existing portfolio of games
the Core team, in charge of our new releases
Each team consists of 6 Marketing Artists and 6 Marketing Unity Developers.
The advantage of being part of such a team is that you get to work with people with different professions and expertise, ranging from marketing artists to publishing managers, who come to us with games and often also with ideas for video concepts.
In general, we have a pool of about ten permanent games that the team works on. Every day, the managers help direct us to the games we need to focus on. We distribute the games evenly among us, depending on what each of us wants to do and making sure that we all have different games throughout the week. On average, we each work on 1 or 2 concepts to deliver per day.
What I also really appreciate is the multicultural aspect of the team, which allows us to speak English on a daily basis, as our main working language. The work environment is very pleasant, to say the least, with many advantages offered by the company that are not to be underestimated to maintain a good work-life balance (premium health insurance, premium Gymlib subscription, a remote day per week, childcare, etc.).
It is therefore a job with a passion, one that is still too little known on the market today. It’s a job for people who are curious, those who never want to stop learning. Of course you need to know how to master Unity and have 3D skills, but I think it’s a job that offers a lot of opportunities to develop your career and your knowledge. Finally, working only on videos that have a real business impact and seeing them every day on social networks is a real luxury that I don’t intend to give up anytime soon.
