On this occasion, I had the opportunity to have a quick chat with Thibault de Vésinne-Larüe, our Head of Publishing at Voodoo. I was able to ask him a few questions that will hopefully help you know more about his experience so far and why he decided to switch from working in a global consulting firm to leading the Publishing team here at Voodoo.
How has your career evolved during your time at Voodoo?
"Now I’ve been working at Voodoo for a bit more than 2 years… I started as a Product Strategy Lead, then I became a Hybrid Casual Lead and now I’m the Head of Publishing for our Gaming Business Unit, where Voodoo has been the global leader in downloads for the past 6 years".
Can you explain your role and how strategic it is for the company?
"As Head of Publishing at Voodoo, I’m responsible for the launch of new games. I manage a team of Publishing Managers that work with our studios, giving out ideation guidelines and leading roadmaps during game launches.
My role starts with some deep benchmarking of market dynamics, both in gaming and outside of it. This will help the team find some powerful insights and inspirations to drive ideation for our partner studios and hopefully help them come up with the next big hit. Once we’ve come up with a promising concept, we’re then responsible for launching the game and defining the product roadmap for the first few months… It's very strategic for the company as launching new games is critical to our growth".
What main challenges will you be facing in the coming months?
"Regarding the 2023 strategy, the challenges for the coming months for me will be to make sure that we find the most promising concepts to remain the undisputed leaders in Hybrid-Casual gaming, and even grow our market share, by always staying at the forefront of innovation. This is even more important as we now have a strategy to build resilient games that will be able to monetize consistently for the years to come".
After being a Consultant at BCG and BCG Digital Ventures for 6 years, why did you choose to join Voodoo?
"After working there for 6 years, I felt it was time to move onto something where my recommendations would be turned into actions, and where I would be held accountable for making sure that would actually happen. Voodoo was for me the best career evolution because it offers a great mix of extreme focus on execution excellence while retaining some freedom for all of the employees. To make it a bit more tangible, at Voodoo you are given some clear objectives to deliver on, and you have full ownership and freedom over how you get there. This is really what convinced me to make the leap".
How did your business consultancy work experience help you succeed in your role at Voodoo?
"After being in a bigger consulting firm, Voodoo is the perfect opportunity to put your learnings into practice. In consulting, you’re used to delivering fast and efficiently, something which is critical here at Voodoo, where your skills will be well put at work. You will also be asked to solve some complex problems, in a still nascent market that is constantly evolving, meaning that your publishing skills will be challenged and you will be able to deliver some sizable impact for the company".
And finally… What type of candidates are you currently looking for to join your team?
"We need people who are straightforward and structured but creative and willing to take on the challenge at the same time. We’re now looking for people who are experienced in Gaming and consulting".
